Frequently Asked Questions
Is Iberia a concert or a multimedia event?
Iberia is first and foremost a piano recital. But at the same time it offers much more than a normal concert. The film serves to support the music but it nevertheless plays a key role in the presentation. The addition of stage direction is unusual for a concert. By taking this divergent form, the presentation becomes suited to both seasoned and less-experienced concertgoers.
Will I fill the hall?
Our experience with Pilgrim Years taught us that there is a large (new) audience that appreciates a special presentation and is delighted to learn the background of the music before it is performed. The only thing the concert hall needs to do is to make clear to the public and the news media that this is a special type of concert.
Doesn’t the film distract from the music?
The staging places the integrity of the music as its top priority; its very purpose is to provide the optimal conditions for the music. The film, in principle, is not shown simultaneously with the music. The transitions between music and film are creatively shaped, for example with a brief overlapping of the two. This production has hardly any of the traditional concert rituals such as coming out on the stage, taking a bow and then playing.
Can I see the film beforehand?
Several film fragments with English subtitling can be seen online here.
How long is the concert?
With the film, but excluding intermission, a maximum of two 55-minute sessions. An adapted version with a different length is possible.
Isn’t the presentation too heavy?
The film is not a documentary in the traditional sense. Along with informative scenes, it has in many cases, like the music, an impressionistic character. Its purpose is to inform (the music is set in context and thus becomes more accessible) and offer variety (the whole is diversified and thus lighter). More equals less.
Does our stage have what is needed for Iberia?
We provide a technician for the film projection and lighting plan. If necessary, we can also provide a video projector and a projection screen. Theater lighting is preferred, but not absolutely necessary. Because of the film, you will have to be able to darken the hall for daytime concerts.

Is Iberia affordable?
Absolutely. However, making a film is expensive. Consequently, a reasonable performance fee will be negotiated, possibly taking into consideration the size of the hall. Contact Effacta Productions: (phone) +31 23 5324690; (e-mail)
Is it possible without the film?
Alternative programs are possible, for example without the film. For more on this, see the page about the programme.
When is Iberia available?
